In order to remedy the situation concerning patent and trademark e-filings where transmission takes longer than usual due to file size or where failures occur in TIPO’s filing system that disrupts e-filing process, TIPO has amended the Regulations Governing the Implementation of Filing Patent Applications and Services by Electronic Means and the Regulations Governing the Implementation of Filing Trademark Applications and Services by Electronic Means, as well as published alternative methods for electronic transmission, which took effect on August 7, 2020.
The alternative methods are where the file size of patent or trademark application documents exceeds 500MB, or where TIPO notifies a breakdown of its system, applicants may store the files on a read-only DVD disc and submit it in person or mail it to TIPO to complete the e-filing process.
